Alright, I know this is not Steorn related, but it's a GREAT puzzle.

How to stop that frigging oil leak?

This is my [first draft] 'sort of' solution.
It should reduce the flow some.

Interesting concept. However under pressure and High flow rate those little iron particals might tend to cause a little spark. Then Boom!

they need to stick a rubber bladder into the pipe and inflate it, a reverse stent.

Droid,

Your 'Rubber Bladder' idea may be a GREAT solution !!??

Altho, I challenge you to try and make a "Then BOOM!", underwater, with a spark and oil flowing through a pipe.

Droid,

This is an interesting company...

TAM International

...inflatable and swellable packer technology...
...downhole...applications.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It looks to me like, maybe, your 'Rubber Bladder' idea could be just what is needed to plug the pipe/hole.

It makes one scratch his head and wonder. If this technoligy already exists in the industry, why the hell didn't they ram one of these things down that hole a month ago? Insanity at it's best I do believe.
