Unable to connect to Steorn (Eire-ta Frank), 3.00pm BST (first time online today). Down, or just me? Haven't found mention of it anywhere..

I have to admit that I like the BVM icon better than most of the others Frank has used. In the largely Mexican barrio where I sort of grew up, it was very common for families to have "Guadalupes" in their front yards. These are small shrines to the BVM, recollecting the vision of the Virgin experienced by Juan Diego at Tepeyac in 1531.
Some of the neighborhood Guadalupes are quite elaborate and striking.
The Oblate Fathers have a "Lourdes Grotto" which commemorates another Marian apparition. It's a beautiful and quiet place for meditation and renewal, regardless of one's beliefs.
It is important for students of comparative religion to realize that these Catholic icons are not idols, in the sense that the statues and other representations are not worshipped per se.

On topic, is this an unusual length of time for the site to be down?

Since we are still within the octave of the patron/city where you "sort of grew up"
I thought I'd give St Anthony a turn as my avatar.

It is only fair to point out -- so they will get the joke -- to the non-catholic readers that Saint Anthony of Padua, for whom San Antonio is named, is considered, among other things, the patron saint of lost souls.

The elementary school that I attended was named for Saint Leo, who talked Attila the Hun out of sacking Rome in the middle of the fifth century.

And of course one of the high schools I attended was named for Jean-Baptiste de La Salle...who, among other things, founded the order of poor teachers known today as the Christian Brothers...the other was, again quite appropriately, named for Saint Anthony.

I normally ask him to help me find my keys. spectacles and the like.
I think I'll have to up the Hail Marys and ask him to help find free energy. Wink

For,
Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find:
knock, and it shall be opened to you.

For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh,
findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

I've been to St Antonio's in Padua, quite a nice cathederal. They also have a nice liqueur named for their patron saint, which I am sure is a preferred beverage of some lost souls.

I am the banned HedyL, no stranger to scandal. I would like to forward my response to my banning (and perhaps further comments later), as follows:

Hot blood through Crank's veins surged and coursed.
"Hedy's banned! Her verse will be outsourced!
Our software censors in China
Will reprogram line-by-line a
New limerick code--Strictly Enforced!"

Ode to Sean

A magnetic personality
Drew investors to his company,
But when Orbo was put to the test
It couldn't turn north, south, east, or west--
It lost its bearings completely!

Forwarded from Steorn's Censors

“High Priestesses three,
We do all Steorn’s bidding for free.
What’s in the Temple we guard?
We can’t say. What will be our reward?
We've been promised we’ll see all there is to see!”

Personally I see nothing objectionable in those lines. Much worse has been said on the Steorn forum. IF that's why Hedy was banned, I'd say it must have hit some especially sensitive nerve.

Thanks for the reminder, drichardson.

Strangely, whenever I make the same reminder on Steorn's forum, Crank is generally very quick to say that she has nothing to do with this forum other than being the domain owner of record. The last such exchange was just a few days ago.

But I wouldn't be surprised if she began taking a more active role.

My verses may well be blank,
But then we know whom to thank.
If I'm a bit rusty
And do not scan justly--
Just blame that blankety-blank-blank Crank!

HedyL on the Censors

No censor here holds a candle
To my first husband, Fritz Mandl.
That boot-licking Nazi
Tried suppressing Ecstasy--
Only stoking the fires of the scandal!

On a Certain CEO

A taste for the high dramatic.
A mind megalomanic.
Who’d cast any doubt
On anyone who’d flout
All Laws of the Thermodynamic?

He Fires Back

“What about that celebrity starlet
Whose definitely out to get me—the harlot!
Her defaming limericks
Have brought on these nervous tics—
She says Orbo belongs in a used car lot!”

General

From the Deli

From his India exile, the Dalai
Lama has flown here to tell me
I should practice a simpler lifestyle.
With a blessing, a wave, and a smile,
He’s whisked to his limo, parked parallelly!

Riding roughshod on all of our backs,
Censors shield Steorn from any attacks.
They're so very thorough,
You'd think some London borough
Would put them to work cleaning jacks!

Steorn posted a "Help Wanted" ad
For a public relations lad:
"Must write glowing copy
For blokes who dress sloppy
And gad about stark raving mad!"

Forum and Against 'Um

Jerked around and p----d off,
The forum's starting to drift off.
Steorn's Mission Control
Blares: "All systems go!"
But the countdown is endless to lift-off.

and

Riding rough-shod on Steorn's General Store,
Crank banned Hedy, whom many adore,
And the rancorous
Grant-ankerous
Will perch on Sean's bust--"Nevermore!"

Sean in his own Defense

"The forum has it in for me
'Cause I bugged out on Free Energy.
What's a CEO to do
With a crew of just 22
And a dead-line of early next century?"

and

When it came down to crunch time,
Sean split for the lunch line:
"My overall thesis
Overlooked hysteresis--
By the way, is that the punch line?"

I read your new limericks with bliss
And welcome you back with a kiss
But feel some frustration
At that dedication
It's not rhyming, but mention, I miss

(just kidding--good to read HedyL again!)

For Nova

How about a nod or a wink, Sean?
The forum is nearly extinct, Sean.
We're drifting off-course
And what's even worse
Now banning's a mark of distinction!

and

Sean's run out of stories, no doubt.
No fix for poor Africa's drought.
Avoiding all faction
By missing in action,
He's "IN" only when he is "OUT."

BTW--Hold steady, Evolvealready!
