Any thoughts appreciated here, i've outlined this idea over at Steorn, and couldn't find anything similar in the literature (well, Google anyway).

Doubtless it wouldn't work, but why Question

(nice forum btw)

Actually Crank recommended he came over here to share his idea with us. It looks interesting but I think it has a flaw. I'll have a look when I get back home from work, (lol, I always say that. Smile ).

I've been looking at Vizimag - great package, but i'm not sure it can model the effect i need. I want to apply shielding to attenuate and shape the geometry of the field lines on opposite poles of the rotor and stator magnets. I'm not sure the same effect could be gained by tuning their shapes and attitudes alone...

Is it worth continuing with this s/w? Can it 'fake' this kind of asymmetry or have i just missed how to do it...?

Mousebender i appologise if i was rude, welcome on board. I'm just being cautious of spambots and the like Smile

You might want to take a look at the Maxwell SV software. I used it to simulate shielding, and bend magnetic fields from their normal path. It can even simulate different types of material. The only thing we cannot do with these free software's is to map 3D flux.
