In the forum there's talk of dead cats,
Reunions and fine party hats,
Mary jumping from cakes,
Sean repenting mistakes
And beer poured from gigantic vats!

An anonymous non-juror's report
Claims McCarthy was not a good sport.
No info presented
Drove jurors, demented,
Who found Newton their last resort!

It's awfully hard to tell
If the forum is going to hell.
Babs may be Mary
And Mary--quite scary--
May contrarily be babs, as well!

'Not a positive word week after week.
I fear Orbo has lost its mystique.
Even those on the fringe
Are starting to cringe

Towards something that might make a euro or two!'

On the forum there's talk of unbanning
A whole host of characters spanning
Steorn's chequered career.
Could it be Crank won't fear
New flames of old controversies fanning!

Being banned is a point of pride,
Like saving one's face by a suicide
Or falling on one's sword
After defeat. (Lord,
If only Sean had done so when Orbo died!)

It's been over a year, banned by Crank.
I guess I've no one but myself to thank.
I embarked on a tryst
As Sean's therapist
And my diagnosis broke the bank!

Steorn's new Orbo Airlines will fly you non-stop
From Dublin to Moscow or even Bangkok.
All tickets are one-way.
You just sit on the runway
'Cause 'non-go' is before and after 'non-stop'!

Laughing

As Chaucer would say, 'Thank you, iwis!'
I'm glad to have fans like chrisbis.
Praise does the trick---
After all, the limerick
Is just a non-profit business!

Steorn once flowered in its jeunesse
And now only totters in its faiblesse.
Only a prick, Sean,
Would try to trick friction,
As all things slow down in time, I guess!

I fear that Shaun's Orbonic Rotor,
May soon lose its interest quota,
Cos it's being overtaken
And will soon be forsaken
For the Vesica Gravity Motor. Cool

And whilst on the subject of limericks, I remember one of my brother's which as a small boy I thought was rather good.

There was a young Frenchman called Froggie
Who went to the pub with his doggie,
He had one or two
He said how are you
The dog groaned aloud and said groggy.

This Frenchman by trade was a master
Who when speaking spoke faster and faster
Until one sad day
His tongue wore right away
So he had a new one made of plaster.

I suppose nowadays my brother's limerick would be considered racist.

I was curious about the connection between the town of Limerick which I visited once on a cycle tour of Ireland and the five line verse form. The best info I could find was this:

History

The origin of the word "limerick" is somewhat obscure and it is not really known how it came to be associated with this particular form of poetry. Most often it is taken as a reference to the County of Limerick and may derive from an old nonsense verse game that was played there. The oldest recorded poem with similar metrical pattern to a limerick was written by Thomas Aquinas in the 1200s. What we commonly know as limericks today originally became popular in the 19th century with the work of Edward Lear, who began publishing books of his limericks in 1845

There once was a limerick that was posted
By someone and then it was tosted
Before it could be read
I found it to be dead
And in my email it simply is Ghosted.

@Harvey

Did anybody take some offense, Sir?
Could it be that Crank, our old censor,
Decided to ditch it?
Perhaps when that b**** quit
At Steorn this is where she went, Sir!

BTW "Lasciate..."

I suppose anything could be possible
having not read it, it may be plausible
that someone posted a post
and then decided that most
would find that the thing was toss-able

"Hedy, Hedy, what am I gonna do
I'm not ready
to say "farewell" to you
But I'm off to another nation
To take a long vacation
Still, I hope we'll meet on some distant street...
Al fresco, cappuccino for two... "

Al, Al, just don't make the mistake
Of inviting that dame who jumps from a cake.
She's not worthy of you or your whipmag.
She's kinky and known to parade 'round in drag.
But I wish you the best as you sail into the distance
To enjoy a well deserved paradisal existence.
I'll try not to get bitter, stuck in this little box,
Though the loneliness grows and the pain never stops.
Like Schroedinger's cat, half-alive and half-dead,
I'll ignore the bad and think of the good instead.
Meanwhile as you sunbathe near the sounding sea,
I know you'll think of my charms in all probability!

Poor Ping has lost three alter egos
Because Crank was caught up in the throes
Of vengeance and spite.
Still Sean's engine's not right
And the year's ending badly for CEO's!

Now the alternate forum is down,
Alas, one of the last games in town.
Could it be that FizzX
Will be going down next,
And then there'll be no one around!

It's a good thing I'm not paranoid
Now that everything's gone null and void.
Has some CIA thug
Pulled our forum's plug
Because some higher-up is annoyed?

Or maybe the whole bloody plot
Involves an actual working SMOT,
And tied up in the Docklands
Sean's watching the clock hands
As they make him confess what he's got!
